GSL To Begin Strategic Plan Development Process

Dear Grace-St. Luke’s Church Community:

On behalf of the Vestry and the Rector, I am pleased to announce the great news that GSL will soon begin the significant process of developing a Five-year Strategic Plan in 2023. To thoughtfully reflect on our past and present ministry and to prepare creatively for a sustainable future, this task is the first of the five 2023 Vestry Goals shared in the February 8 eNews after the January Vestry Retreat. “Vital Christian Communities” like GSL are described as healthy whenever components like strategic plans exist as a community resource that reflects the hearts and minds of a parish and guides its mission and ministry actions. The success of our work over the coming months will depend on engagement by as many parishioners as possible working with the Vestry, Clergy, and Staff.

Thanks to a special financial gift, we have engaged the professional services of strategic planning consultant Katie Spencer. Ms. Spencer, a former GSL School parent and consultant for several Memphis non-profits including houses of worship, works between Memphis and Chicago and looks forward to spending some initial time with available parishioners on Thursday, May 18 for GSL Strategic Plan Development Introduction Sessions: Noon to 1 p.m. and 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Trezevant Hall.

The two identical sessions will be offered to share details about the process before more involved work, including focus groups, will begin after August 13 (Parish Life Festival & Fall Program Launch Day). Please register by Monday, May 15, or after using the following links, noting that childcare is available at each: Thursday, May 18, Noon-1 p.m. or Thursday, May 18, 5:30-6:30 p.m. If you are unable to attend, watch for post-event highlights to stay informed of what’s ahead. If you have questions or comments about this, Vestry matters, or parish life, please contact me via Realm.

The Vestry and I give thanks for all who make up the GSL family and appreciate all support in our shared ministry. The impending strategic plan will help us to more faithfully live into our bold vision: to be a thriving community of hope, belonging, and healing through worship, parish life, and service, and who rejoices in the love of Jesus to transform the world.

Gratefully,
George T. Johnson, Senior Warden
