A Message of Gratitude from the Rector
Dear Grace-St. Luke’s Community:
Greetings as summer is winding down, and we prepare for the abundance of Fall 2022 in our thriving faith community. I pray you are taking good care and hold you in daily prayer and devotion. If you’re wondering, life at Grace-St. Luke’s Church is alive and well in many ways. Thanks to the dedication of members, newcomers, and an increased number of adults, youth, children making a new spiritual home at GSL, we are blessed. Even as some have taken breaks and reevaluated how they have and might engage parish life, many also are returning to on-campus life. I pray and trust that many more will be back soon!
At the June meeting of the Vestry, it was exciting to share that GSL included 978 active individual members, which represented 565 households with 56 persons becoming new members between May 2021 and May 2022. This summer, we welcomed some new members and have multiple baptisms slated for September 18 and November 5. This month, we also receive Director of Children & Family Ministries Anthony Calzia in August and Head of School Dr. Andy Surber at the start of the 75th anniversary of our parish school. The 9:15 a.m. Parish Hall Forum on August 21 will feature Dr. Surber who will return on August 28, Episcopal School Sunday for 10 a.m. worship with fellow administration, faculty, and staff.
Note: Sunday, September 11 introduces the Fall 2022 schedule:
Watch for publicity details about this “Parish Life Festival” Day, which will be different by the inclusion of lunch, information about ways to get involved, live music, and more, all from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
I am glad and humbled to share that life at Grace-St. Luke’s thrives. Each affiliated household is integral and reflects the faithfulness, beauty, and resilience that have made it possible to navigate the many challenges that we as a world face. We are blessed beyond measure, and I hope you will avail yourself to the Fall 2022 edition of Life at GSL Program Guide: Worship, Formation, Community, Music & More and closely read The Messenger, both of which are available on our website and for pickup at the church.
Throughout the year, the Wardens, Vestry, Treasurer, and I thank you for combining your sacred gifts of time, talent, and money with those of others to support what we offer daily to God through our ministry operations. Every Member Canvass 2022 (gracestlukes.org/pledge) continues year-round to seek 100% household participation, mindful that every pledge amount matters equally. Many thanks for all pledges made and for those to come! One-time and Sunday contributions given in person and online (gracestlukes.org/give) likewise subsidize the extraordinary expenses of a resource-size parish. All financial giving enables funding of the Clergy-Staff Team, worship, in-reach, outreach, social justice, formation, music, operations, and major maintenance of our historic property.
Daily, God in Christ Jesus calls us into a bold partnership. While most of us are unlikely to approach the Christian faith like St. Clare of Assisi, may we be “inspired by her devotion, serve with a singleness of heart, attain to the riches to come,” and share the baptismal work of co-creating the kingdom of God on earth as it is in heaven. Thank you for keeping us strong, and Godspeed as we journey together!
