A Message from the New Rector
The Reverend Ollie V. Rencher

Dear Grace-St. Luke’s Parish Community:

Greetings and peace in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It is with profound gratitude, joy, hopefulness, and a humble heart that I have accepted the call to serve as the new Rector of Grace-St. Luke’s Parish. My current ministry as the Rector of St. Peter’s Parish in Charlotte, North Carolina has been awesome, joyful, fulfilling, and abundant. Soon, I will have the benefit to be in God’s service with you about whom I have heard positive and encouraging things from the Rector Search Committee and the Vestry. Search Committee members have been exceptional ambassadors, offering important, transparent, and diverse perspectives about GSL.

A powerful and incredible discernment period has called us together. Through prayer, formation, engagement, and creativity, I suspect that we will do well, together, to foster and maintain a sacred place known for helping parishioners and non-parishioners alike with “finding God in the heart of Midtown.” In late July, I will join you to experience the rich fusion of liturgy, music, pastoral care, formation and education, outreach, and fellowship offered through life at GSL, and to embolden our partnership with Grace-St. Luke’s School.

Whether you have a long history with or are new; have offered numerous gifts and talents or are exploring how to get involved; have taken a break for whatever reason; or simply call the parish your “church home”, thank you for being a part of the body of Christ at GSL. I look forward to sharing in the spiritual leadership of a place that describes its existence as a “Christian community that values beauty, tradition, diversity, wonder and questions” and “hopes that all who come will receive the same welcome we have received in Jesus Christ.”

I believe that spiritual relationships and being acquainted are essential in faith communities. To this end, stay tuned for a schedule of “storytelling socials” to be hosted at the Parish House as the primary gatherings to meet-and-greet Ellie and me. In order to connect with those who physically are unable to attend parish offerings, I will make pastoral home visits and calls a top priority.

Now, Ellie and I are saying goodbyes and preparing for relocation with many things ahead to make for a smooth transition to our new home in early July, followed by vacation and my retreat to the Society of St. John the Evangelist (SSJE) Episcopal Monastery in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Let us pray for one another as we shall be together sooner than later.
