THE MAJESTY OF OUR MUSIC
Grace-St. Luke’s glorious music program is a treasured part of the worship experience for many parishioners and the Memphis region. The ;Grace-St. Luke's Choir provides vocal leadership during the Sunday 10:30 Eucharist -- supporting the congregation in traditional hymns and offering inspiring sacred pieces that range from classical chorales to spirituals. Sundays at 8 a.m. include hymns and ;music for organ and at 5 p.m., ;mostly guest musicians offer a diverse instrumental-only repertoire. Click the play button on the picture below to hear the Choir and view a slide show of Grace-St. Luke's music. ;
Two parish children's choirs also rehearse during the academic year and offer their song at occasional 10:30 services. And guest musicians -- from vocalists to string, brass, and wind ensembles -- frequently join the choir during the 10:30 service. In addition, highly anticipated performances, both religious and secular, take place throughout the year. The inspiring majesty of our music draws and feeds many within the parish and throughout the Memphis community. Monthly on Sunday evenings (June 4, July 9, August 6).
5 p.m. Holy Communion with Guest Musicians
Contemplative Holy Eucharist: Weekly, 5 p.m. except Evensong Sundays (Fall through Spring). Experience worship in Word and Sacrament in a quiet space illuminated by candles, outside and dimmed overhead lights, silence, and excellent instrumental music of cello, flute, classical guitar, piano, jazz, and bass offered on a rotating basis by guest and parish musicians.
Choral Evensong: One of the ancient and modern aspects of the Anglican/Episcopal tradition is the beautiful service of Choral Evensong (sung Evening Prayer). This contemplative liturgy is led by a member of the clergy and the choir with hymns sung by the congregation and enhanced with incense. Each includes the Magnificat (Song of Mary), Nunc Dimittis (Song of Simeon), and an anthem.
