Memphis Boy and Girl Choir

Grace-St. Luke's Church becomes home to The Memphis Boy, Girl, and Chamber Choirs.

Grace-St. Luke’s Rector, Wardens, Vestry, and Director of Music and Organist are delighted to announce that one of the leading arts organizations of its kind is moving its operations to GSL effective Fall 2021. Established in 1988 at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Memphis by former Choirmaster-Organist John Ayerthe Memphis Boy Choir, Girl Choir, and Chamber Choir are the three ensembles of a non-profit organization that offers a creative and interactive musical experience for children and adults.

The organizational mission statement on the current website (www.memphisboychoir.org) states that “We provide boys and girls with the unique and multi-faceted experience for which the centuries-old Anglican choral tradition has been known: first-rate musical formation from professional staff within a healthy, supportive, and spiritual after-school environment. Through membership in the Chamber Choir, adults also participate in this dynamic choral experience, both with the Boy Choir and Girl Choir, and as an independent ensemble.”

It is an incredible honor for the current board of directors to entrust Grace-St. Luke’s Church as the new home and a wonderful opportunity to incorporate the organization into the excellence with which GSL strives to offer music for the congregation and the community. Program leadership will recruit choristers from GSL School and all schools throughout the Memphis region. GSL Director of Music and Organist Dr. Patrick Scott will serve as Artistic Director alongside his primary commitment to music for worship, and in collaboration with the GSL music staff and a team of volunteers

If you are the parent or know of a childthird grade and older, who might enjoy and benefit from this program at GSL, contact Dr. Patrick Scott (901-252-6323, pscott@gracestlukes.org).
