TRUNK and TREAT

Trunk AND Treat 2020 is ON! GSL is teaming up with five other midtown congregations to offer a progressive, drive-thru Trunk & Treat on Saturday, Oct. 31. All families are welcome!

Congregations include St. John’s Methodist, Immaculate Conception, Grace-St. Luke’s, Idlewild Presbyterian, First Congo, and Lindenwood Christian Church, and the suggested route (TBA) will take Trunk & Treaters through all six lots of decorated trunks. Health and safety protocols will be in place for everyone’s comfort. Families will stay in their vehicles, trunk hosts will be masked and cheering children on from the sidelines, and goody bags filled with treats will be given to every child at each location.

An event like this is quite an undertaking during a typical season, but with the limitations Covid puts on many Halloween traditions, Trunk or Treats are likely to be the way families feel safer celebrating, Large numbers of families are expected to drive through, so we will welcome your volunteer time as a trunk, candy donations, and prayers to make it a success! GSL will need:

  • 12-15 decorated trunks in our circle drive (plan for approx. Noon-4:30, which includes set up and take down of your personal trunk). Please email Sharon Campbell to volunteer as a trunk!

  • Lots and LOTS of NUT-FREE candy. Allergy-friendly candy lists are readily available online, including here. Oriental Trading, Party City, Target, and other retailers have a great selection of non-candy Halloween items. These donations can be brought on Sunday mornings and left in the boxes marked TRUNK & TREAT, found in the Narthex, in the foyer by the front office, and inside the Lemaster Red Door entrance to Youth and Children’s space. To drop off during the week between 8 am and Noon, please ring the intercom at the front office entrance. To arrange a drop off at another time, please email Sharon Campbell.

GSL is so excited to be working with our fellow midtown congregations to give a Happy Halloween to the children of all our churches and our Memphis community. Please contact Sharon Campbell with any questions about how to support our participation in this wonderful event!
