Choral Evensong

Choral Evensong and More

Contemplative Holy Eucharist: Weekly, 5 p.m. except Evensong Sundays. Experience worship in Word and Sacrament in a quiet space illuminated by candles, outside and dimmed overhead lights, silence, and excellent instrumental music of cello, flute, classical guitar, piano, jazz, and bass offered on a rotating basis by guest and parish musicians.
Choral Evensong: Third Sundays, January 15, February 19, March 19, and May 21, 5 p.m. One of the ancient and modern aspects of the Anglican/Episcopal tradition is the beautiful service of Choral Evensong (sung Evening Prayer). This contemplative liturgy is led by a member of the clergy and the choir with hymns sung by the congregation and enhanced with incense. Each includes the Magnificat (Song of Mary), Nunc Dimittis (Song of Simeon), and an anthem.

  • A Service in Observance of Candlemas, the Feast of the Presentation of our Lord Jesus Christ, January 29, 5 p.m.
  • The Memphis Boy & Girl Choir sing February 26 at 5 p.m., the First Sunday of Lent
  • Meditation on the Passion of Christ with Carols on Palm Sunday, April 2, at 5 p.m.
  • Concert with the Memphis Boy & Girl Choir and Chamber Choir, May 7, 5 p.m.
  • The GSL Choir joins with the Choir from Church of the Nativity, Huntsville, Alabama, for Choral Evensong, May 21, at 5 p.m.

All 5 p.m. services (except Contemplative Holy Eucharist) are also livestreamed (gracestlukes.org/live).

The Friends of Music fund makes it possible to enhance music for worship with guest instrumentalists and offer concerts and special events.
