Building confidence and friendships.
The Church Athletic Department provides sports activities in soccer, football, baseball, softball, t-ball and basketball for children ages JK - 4th grade. We may also provide in these areas, adult and high school sports, based on demand.
Grace St. Luke’s belongs to several church leagues which offer the best all-around conditions for Christian team sports. Our purpose is to provide for athletic competition which promotes and develops enjoyable and exciting experiences for the players.
Grace-St. Luke's Episcopal Church Youth Sports focus on the players having fun, receiving instruction in sports fundamentals and providing a healthy and wholesome Christian environment in which to participate.
GSL teams are placed in different leagues according to their needs, individual ability and the desire to challenge players to excel. All of the JK - 4th grade church teams are part of a feeder system which prepares them for the middle school sports (5th - 8th grade). To promote fairness, recreational team assignments are made according to the individual player's school grade and ability. Our policy is that each child is to play a minimum of 50% per game, e.g. a player will play a minimum of 2 quarters of a 4 quarter game.

Fees
Registration fee for each sport is $85 - $100. The registration fee pays for: League Fees, Pictures, Non-Volunteer Coaches, Administration Costs, Equipment, Trophies, Uniforms and Security. IMPORTANT NOTE: In order to avoid waste and extra cost, our policy is that all uniforms must be returned to the church at the end of the season. Registration fees cover uniform replacements for the program. At present, participants do not buy the uniform, with the exception of hats and socks in baseball/softball. We appreciate your cooperation in recycling for the program's use and savings.
A recent GSL Church Sports Survey conveyed that many of you strongly suggested offering on-line sports registration. We simply do not have capability to offer this at this time, primarily due to the inability to receive electronic checks for registration fees. As you may recall, the policy is that registrations are not deemed acceptable unless the fee check is with the registration form. We will keep you informed as to this technology will be available through the GSL Church. We are looking into it, but it must be seen in terms of the overall needs of the church.
Coaches
GSL Church coaches are Volunteer Parent Coaches. This is the traditional format for recreational leagues, but efforts are made to equip coaches with knowledge and assistance to give excellent coaching. All coaches must attend "Safeguarding God's Children."
Inclement Weather Information
Please call the ESCRA Inclement Weather Hotline at 336-RAIN (7246) after 8 a.m. on game days to find out if your games will be played.
Best Concession Man in the South
GSL has some mighty fine concession stands! Scott Hamilton has been volunteering his concession skills at GSL for over ten years. He loves volunteering for the GSL parents and children. "It has enriched my life in more ways than I could have ever imagined," said Mr. Hamilton. So next time you're at a GSL sporting event, be sure to say hello and shake the hand of the "best concession man in the south" when you place your drink and snack order.
