Organ Repair Work Is Underway at Grace-St. Luke's
October 28th, 2009
During the most-recent tuning of Grace-St. Luke's magnificent Schantz organ, water damage to the ceiling was found in one of the rooms of the organ chamber. Needless to say, pipes and water don’t mix (not to mention wind lines, wind chests, and electricity).
So in preparation for the ceiling repair, 800 of the organ's pipes had to be removed. Church music director Wesley Emerson was joined Dwayne Short (Schantz Organ representative) and S. D. Brandon (resident tenor) for the project, and the three of them carefully removed packed and stored each pipe.
Hopefully, due to the skills of your organists Debbie and Wesley, ‘missing’ pipes won’t be noticed during services. Updates will follow as work progresses.
