Moloney Portrait Dedicated in Fitting Style
October 31st, 2010
On Sunday, October 31, hundreds of Grace-St. Luke's parishioners gathered in Trezevant Hall for the unveiling of the portrait of Father John Moloney, the parish's eighth rector. The portrait was introduced by Frank Langford -- who coordinated the project along with parishioner Lesley Hartney -- and it was dedicated by current rector Richard Lawson.
The portrait captures Father Moloney's infectious smile, and his depiction in the red vestments of Pentecost was especially meaningful to the many who recalled his liturgical passion for the season of the fire of the Holy Spirit.
Though Father Moloney passed away suddenly in 2009, his wife, Carol, sons, Kyle and Sean, and his mother, Sandra, were able to attend this special day. Also in attendance was the portrait's artist, Kurt Meer.
Further contributing to the special day was a celebration of a Grace-St. Luke's "Fifth Sunday," a fellowship tradition inaugurated by Father Moloney, and menu items at both breakfast and the Fifth Sunday meal nodded to his love of the cuisine of his beloved Louisiana.
