GSL's Tour of the Tiffanys in the News!

June 13th, 2011

Tiffany Jesus Detail

Dan Conaway, chair of our window restoration project a few years ago, led folks through a tour of the Tiffanys Pentecost Day (June 12), explaining what makes a Tiffany a Tiffany, and pointing out the art of symbols, saints and sacred meaning throughout Grace-St. Luke’s.

Ours is one of the largest collections of Tiffany Windows in the country, and probably the largest in a parish church anywhere in the world.

They came here from Grace Church, along with much of our liturgical art, when Grace merged with St. Luke’s in 1940. The first, the Gage Ascension Window, was commissioned after a meeting with Tiffany at the Paris Exposition in 1900, and he personally supervised its installation over the altar at Grace.
