Flood Aid Needed in Humboldt
May 3rd, 2010
The Freewill Shelter, a drug and alcohol rehabilitation shelter with close ties to St. Thomas the Apostle in Humboldt, was severely damaged by flood waters over the weekend, reportedly up to six feet deep.
Most of the building's contents were ruined and will need to be replaced. Immediate needs for the 17 clients staying there include mattresses, sheets, pillows, blankets (they have acquired some cots for temporary use) and household supplies like toilet paper. Once the damage has been fully assessed, they will need help cleaning and rebuilding.
This is an important ministry in a part of the Diocese where little support exists for the members of our community struggling to overcome addiction. If you would like to help, please call Dorothy Farner at 731-697-4412 or John Newman at 731-855-0793.
