The Grace-St. Luke’s Parish and School communities are invited to mark household calendars for the Celebration of a New Ministry of the Parish and its new Rector, the Reverend Ollie V. Rencher on Wednesday, August 22, 6:00 p.m. at GSL. The Celebration of a New Ministry, as commended by The Episcopal Church in The Book of Common Prayer and presided over by the bishop, celebrates the covenant recently made between a congregation and the rector to serve faithfully in various ministries with God’s help and the support of one another. Before the Holy Eucharist, designated children, youth, and adult of the parish and the school will speak and/or present at the institution and induction of the rector as outward and visible signs of our shared role in the ministry of God both in and from this place. In the spirit of the marriage of two people, this liturgical occasion is The Episcopal Church’s symbolic marriage of the parish and the rector. The Right Reverend Don E. Johnson, Bishop of West Tennessee, will preside, and the sermon will be offered by the Reverend William “Bill” Harkins, PhD, Canon Priest Associate at the Episcopal Cathedral of St. Philip in Atlanta. Dr. Harkins has facilitated two GSL Vestry retreats and has known the Rector for several years through their service as co-faculty members for Episcopal CREDO, a wellness benefit program of The Episcopal Church . A festive reception will follow in Trezevant Hall. Watch for more information about this event in the eNews and worship service leaflet, including ways you might contribute to the reception.
